Since our arrival, Ryan and I have debated the rationale for why we see plastic bottles filled with water deliberately situated around the perimeter of a property. My hypothesis, it prevents parking. The other day an Australian friend put an end to the mystery. Apparently the plastic plus water is a deterrent to wayward dogs and cats compelled to use your lawn or concrete as their personal privy. Something about the look of the water frightens, encouraging the animal to move on to the ill equipped neighbor’s, leaving your concrete less odiferous and your grass green. Both of which must be considered more pleasing than the sight of plastic.
